New Drainage Channel on Jalan Raya Kelapa Hybrida Finished

The construction of a new drainage system at the Jalan Raya Kelapa Hybrida traffic light area, RW 03, Pegangsaan Dua Urban Village, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, has been completed.

We have now built a new channel to prevent flooding

Kelapa Gading Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Unit Head, Supiyan, stated that the project is a follow-up to a formal proposal submitted by local residents.

According to him, during high-intensity rainfall, flooding in the area could reach depths of over 30 centimeters, disrupting residents' activities and mobility.

"Previously, there was no proper drainage, only old pipes. We have now built a new channel to prevent flooding," he expressed, Thursday (4/9).

He explained that the constructed channel is 55 meters long, 60 centimeters high, and 40 centimeters wide. The project involved several stages of work, ranging from excavation and stone masonry to plastering the retaining walls.

"The entire project was carried out manually by deploying nine personnel. Construction began on February 25, 2026, and is now complete," he clarified.

His unit will continue to monitor the drainage system to ensure it functions optimally, particularly during the rainy season.

"We urge residents to help maintain the cleanliness of the channel by not littering, thus it remains fully functional," he added.

Meanwhile, Fauzi (42), a mobile coffee vendor, noted that the area was previously prone to flooding because the road is situated in a low-lying basin.

"Hopefully, this new drainage system will reduce the flooding. We will do our part to look after and maintain it," he concluded.
